These girls from Uganda (see above left) visit the US almost every year, singing in churches to encourage support for the children’s ministries conducted in that African country. Here they are seen modeling some of the clothes sewn by our wonderful Parkview ladies as part of the “Children Hemmed in Prayer” effort.
Since 2005, Parkview ladies (and a few men) have participated in a ministry to send shorts, dresses, and other clothing items to needy children around the world. It began as part of the Children Hemmed in Prayer program pioneered by Mary Beth Turberville of Phenix City, AL.
Mary Beth is nurse who would go for several weeks each year as a medical missionary, showing God’s love to the people of Central America through the healing arts. She would also take clothing items for the children she encountered in these countries. You can find out more about her at this website.
The Parkview effort originally began as a participant with Mary Beth, but later started working independently to supply children’s clothing items for missionaries from our church and the Baptist association. The items are made from rolls of cloth or recycled clothing, cut out and sewn by hand with love and prayer. Right now there is a need for tee shirts to go with the shorts and skirts that have been made.
If you feel led to contribute, please speak with Mrs. Faye Watford about sizes and other issues before you donate. The group meets one Thursday each month at 9:00 AM in the Youth Center to continue this worthy cause – they would love to have you join!
